Journal Entry A
In your own words, please define "tolerance" and "intolerance." Support your definition with some examples of behavior you consider either tolerant or intolerant. These examples can be drawn from your own behaviors, those of your peers, and/or those of people in the world around you. Next, verify your definition by offering a definition from an outside source. Identify the sources and discuss how its definition varies from your own. Which do you prefer? Why?

When thinking about tolerance and intolerance I always think of babysitting. I think of babysitting because when you have someone much younger than you with different interests and different perspectives on the world you are going to have to make adjustments to the way you normally act. Making these adjustments is like accepting that this kid you are caring for is younger than you and they might get on your nerves sometimes but for now its ok and you can push your feelings aside and get along. Intolerance on the other hand would be like me yelling at the kid that I am watching because I think Barney’s stupid but they just wont stop talking about how great he is. By yelling at eh kid I am just showing that I don’t accept Barney and I don’t accept people that like Barney so now I am just going to make you go to bed at seven o’clock.
Tolerance- fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward those whose opinions, practices, race, religion, nationality, etc., differ from one's own
Intolerance- incapacity or indisposition to bear or endure

I think that our definitions are similar. The website definitely said it better than I did. Our definitions were pretty close though I mean we both said that tolerance was being open to someone else’s ideas basically, and for intolerance we both stated that you just cant take it anymore.

In my own words, tolerance is the act of listening and respecting the beliefs, opinions, or customs of those different from mine own, though I may, or may not agree with them. Intolerance is the rudeness of unwilling to value the thoughts or actions of others because of the way someone looks, acts, or believes.
Our life is littered with examples of behaviors that are tolerant and or intolerant. In class discussions, classmates show tolerance as peers share their views on the subject at hand, while they listen, thinking of thoughtful comments to express that of their own opinion, though still taking to mind what the other person had to say. Purposely excluding someone from a group project because they’re not your friend, or making fun of someone because of how they look or act, is intolerance, because though someone is different from you, you still own them your full respect, as no single person is better than another.
The Free Dictionary by Farlex defines tolerance as the capacity for or the practice of recognizing and respecting the beliefs or practices of others, and intolerance as unwillingness to recognize and respect differences in opinions or beliefs. These definitions vary from my own as they do not define what I believe tolerance and intolerance is, they’re set definitions instead of my own thoughts. I prefer my own definition as it is more personal to me, clearly saying what I believe making it easier for me to understand and follow.

When I think of tolerance I think of having to listen to a teacher talk for hours without end. Because you always have to listen to them and theres nothing you can do about it except listen to it. When I think of intolerance is when somethings annoying or you don’t like something and you finnaly do something about it.i think that tolerance just means that you don’t agree with something so your don’t do anything about it and just trying to make the best of it. Intolerance is when you just don’t want to roll over and deal with something that annoys you or if something has a problem you just fix it. like when someones annoying you at school tolerateing him would be ignoreing him a praying that he will stop. intolerance is just telling him to shut up and trying to get him to stop.
